Dionaea muscipula 'Blanche Hermine'
A spontaneous mutation resulting from a division of Dionaea "Camouflage," a variegated Venus flytrap that died from frost over the winter of 2008 and 2009 and is no longer in cultivation, 'Blanche Hermine' is a mostly white or pale-yellow Venus flytrap. "Camouflage" was discovered by Guillaume Bily on the same day as 'Alien' and 'Coquillage' at the May 2008 Carniflora, a carnivorous plant nursery in the Netherlands, open day. Dionaea 'Blanche Hermine' is named after a very good white beer, La Blanche Hermine, produced by the brewery Brasserie Lancelot in Britain, the same location where the plant was born. Blanche Hermine is also the name of a weasel-like animal of the family of Mustélidae (Mustela ermina), which is commonly found throughout Europe. In winter, the fur of Mustela ermina becomes very white except the end of the tail, which remains black. When a leaf on Dionaea 'Blanche Hermine' begins to die, the trap usually turns black. The contrast of a dying black trap with the white leaf-base reminded Guillaume of the winter dress of Mustela ermina.
Guillaume assumed the small whitish plant would die after the reserves of the "Camouflage" bulb division were exhausted. But much to his surprise, 'Blanche Hermine' resumed growth in the spring of 2009! Though the leaves are mostly white in appearance, they must still have some traces of chlorophyll in them that allow the plant to photosynthesize.
Trap interiors can develop a slight pink blush. Due to the lack Dionaea muscipula 'Blanche Hermine'

Dionaea 'Blanche Hermine »
